Writing an Inspirational Indie Track

November 13, 2019 in soundtrack, indie music

Indie and alt rock has always appealed to me. Pop music is fun, but sometimes it feels too polished; you need the rawness of a good indie track.

When I came back to the states from Japan, I did a lot of camping, and this piece sort of developed over a few trips outdoors. Driving down the road into the desert or the forest, seeing the wide open horizon in front of me, felt…inspiring. Soon I was writing a piece with upright pianos, mandolin, rock drums, and all kinds of jangly sounds that, to me, really captured the feeling of packing up for a weekend and taking a road trip to relax or just find some inspiration.

It certainly worked for this little track.

Happy listening,

- Matthew
