New Music: Cataclysm

October 15, 2019 in soundtrack, animation

It’s always fun when you’re asked to hit a range of emotions within a single cue. For this piece, I needed to underscore a scene where a young adventurer follows in his mother’s footsteps and must sacrifice himself to complete what his mother started.

It starts out sweet and gentle on the piano and builds up to that cataclysmic moment then lets us sit in the aftermath of that decision. It was fun to incorporate a solo female vocal line in this track, as often folks want full choir or nothing. I think that solo line helps sell the emotion of the big moment but also the bittersweet resolution that follows.

I hope you enjoy this little journey. I certainly did.
